Mud pools in Rotorua

After the Tongariro Crossing, I went up to Rotorua, where I met up with a friend from my previous job who’ll be joining until we get back to Christchurch.  We did a couple little day trips around the area and ate Hāngi at one of the local tourist attractions.  Rotorua has loads of local geothermic activity – in a park in town are several bubbling hot mud pools like above, which contribute to the volcanic odour around town.

We headed down to Taupo, stopping at this neat geothermal power plant along the way:
