One of several moderately insane annual events here is there marathon. It’s generally held after Christmas, but one of the chief organisers will be leaving in a few days, so this year it was held early.
There was a signup sheet in the galley, where some people put “full”, some put “1/2”, and I put “1/16”. In the end, this required me to map out the turnaround point for the 1/16 marathon distance on my own – the normal 1/2 and full distances involved roughly a 6.5 mile route done either twice or four times, and I wasn’t about to do that.
After conquering the 1/16th marathon, I drove a Pisten Bully out to near the end of our skiway with some hot drinks, hand warmers, and cookies for the folks who planned to spend more time running.
The weather was about as perfect as it gets down here, for running. There was very little wind, and the temperature was somewhere around -10F. It was cold enough that there were some icy clothes, eyelashes, and beards:
In the end, we had five intrepid souls who ran the whole marathon, and a few who did the half.
